Description |
Hand-pieced and applique quilt in the "Kentucky Rose" or "Whig Rose" variation pattern. There are 20 blocks containing a central rose bloom in red and pink and there are eight rose buds surrounding each bloom. The red fabric has a small white print in it. Each bud is surrounded by a green calico print. The stems to each rose bud are hand-embroidered with hand-embroidered thorns at the top. The quilt has a 10 and 1/2 inch border containing large appliqued leaves with stem with five rose buds in between each and single rose buds throughout the border. The quilt has a plain white backing made of three panels and has a binding using the same red calico used in the flower. Each block is quilted with a feathered leaf and rose bud motif. The border is quilted with a feathered chain and leaf shapes. Some of the flowers are embroidered with tan thread, and others with blue thread. |
