Description |
The purse is in the shape of a half moon, made of various silks, velvets, and chenille. Both plain and pattern fabrics are used. There also appears to be scraps of ribbon used to piece together. All applied in a crazy patchwork. Colors include purple, blues, tans, red, green. There are various embroidery stitches along the seams of each patchwork piece. The stitching is done rather crudely. One of the patches has an embroidered heart and the date "1856" (Probably not the date made because crazy quilts were not made at this time). This is embroidered in a faded rose color. The back is constructed of a plain teal silk with no embroidery or embellishment. The piece is lined with a cream colored cotton. There is an opening in the center big enough to fit a hand in, and the rest of the top is stitched shut. The purse was constructed by using a blanket stitch to sew the front and back pieces together. At the top of the half moon points are two ribbons tied in a bow made of a pink silk. |
