Description |
This is a sunflower quilt. There are 42 sunflowers hand pieced in a circular block and then hand appliqued onto a white background, consisting of three strips of fabric hand sewn together. Each sunflower consists of a bright red circular center, surrounded by lemon yellow triangular petals, surrounded by white diamonds, followed by what is now tan colored triangles that appeared to originally be green. Some sunflowers have one large leaf appliqued to them while others have two, and some have no leaves at all. The center of the sunflowers are quilted with a double intersecting cross, and each sunflower is quilted in the ditch. The background fabric is quilted in a 1" wide clamshell. There is a tan 1.75" border that is turned over to the back to form the binding and the border is quilted in double diagonal lines with nine stitches per inch. The backing is a plain cream colored cotton with an irregular and open weave, possibly homespun. |
