Description |
Blue and White Shibori, stitched circles on silk noil, by Elmer Lucille Allen (b. 1931). Made with the following technique (in her own words): "Ideas are primarily based on geometric shapes that are drawn on graph paper then scaled up. Fabric is washed and pre-treated. Draw design on the fabric with a pencil. Designs are hand stitched entirely before the stitches are pulled up and secured tightly before dying. Immersion dyed for 60 minutes using fiber reactive dyes. Washed in cold water until the water is clear. Air dry. Remove stitches with a stitch remover. NOTE: If you tear a hole in the fabric, your art is destroyed." In this piece, you can see where individual stitches were made. |
