Description |
Lone star quilt made of velvet in shades of turquoise, acid green, maroon, yellow, and peach. There are two outlines of the star done in solid strips of burgundy. In each corner of the quilt there is a Lemoyne star made of velvet and brocade, surrounded by velvet border that is 2.25" thick. Next to each corner are vertical strips of fabric that get shorter as they get closer to the center of the quilt, done in various brocades and velvets. On either side of the quilt are horizontal strips that are 2x5" that form a border. At the bottom of the quilt is a 3" wide border made of a purple brocade with black detailing. On the back of the quilt is a red and green and tan paisley cotton print. The quilt was pieced with black cotton thread. There are no visible basting or quilting stitches. The quilt back has been folded over to the front and stitched down to finish the edge in place of binding. At the top of the quilt there is an embellishment of fringed fabric. The top of the backing was folded in the back to form a hanging sleeve. Made from fabrics from the 2nd Galt House after it was refurbished in 1878. |
