Description |
Five Courier Journal photographs of Ludie J. Kinkead (1882-1970). Kinkead was a curator at the Filson Club (now the Filson Historical Society). After graduating from Louisville's Girls High School, she began working as a secretary for Rogers Clark Ballard Thurston, the Filson's 4th president, in 1910. In 1923, she became the Filson's Curator and added Librarian duties to her position in 1928. With no formal library science or historical collections training, Kinkead relied on the support and expertise of the public librarians in Louisville. She eventually became a member of both the Kentucky & Louisville Library Associations, serving as president for the Louisville Library Association for a time. Kinkead remained at the Filson until her retirement in 1952. Photographs for research purposes only. Contact the University of Louisville Archives and Special Collections for reproductions. |
