Description |
Cabinet card of Dora (Doris) Grauman (1844-1926), ca. 1902. Dora Grauman was a Jewish immigrant who settled in Louisville, Kentucky, and is buried in the Temple Cemetery. Dora's husband was Edward Grauman (1843-1913); both were born in Prussia/Germany. Edward is listed in the 1870 census as a shoe dealer, in the 1880 census as owning a boot and shoe store, in the 1900 census as a retail merchant, and in the 1910 census as a banker. Their children were: Harry (1867-1948, married Hattie Lazarus, daughter of Meyer Lazarus and Clara Block Lazarus, moved to Marvell and then Helena, Arkansas and established the Harry Grauman Cotton Company); Nellie (1868-1959, married Mose Mosler and later Louis Kahn, who operated a mercantile business in Helena, Ark.); Flora (ca. 1870-1932, married Sylvester Rothchild and lived in Louisville); David (1871-1963, married Fannye Lazarus, operated a drug store in Helena, Ark.); Emma (ca. 1873-1928, received an A.B. degree in Education from Cornell University in 1904 and became principal of the Louisville Eastern Girl's High School, later moved to New York City where she served as director of Americanization); Josephine (ca. 1874-1964, married Joseph E. Marks, became state press chair of the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs); and Hattie (1883-1972, married Henry S. Weinbaum and lived in Louisville).
