A group of twenty-four photographs documenting four generations of the Tichenor, Langsford, and Young families of Kentucky. Included in the collection are two loose ambrotypes of James Louis Young and Ann Maria Langsford, both stored separately with the ambrotype collection. Lewis C. Langsford married Lydia Ann Tichenor in Bardstown, Kentucky, on 8 June 1837. They had three children: Ann Maria Langsford, James Harvey Langsford, and Sarah Catherine Langsford. When Lewis died in 1841, Lydia stayed in Spencer County, with her deaf daughter Ann living with her. Ann died in 1907 of acute gastro-enterocolitis. Sarah Catherine "Kate" Langsford married John Eastburn Young in Spencer County in 1857. John worked as a carpenter until his death. Records indicate they moved to Louisville sometime between 1880 and 1894 and lived at 1804 Floyd St. John died in 1894 of tuberculosis or other phthisis disease, and Kate died in 1917 from "shock from broken hip." John and Kate had 8 children together, one being Charles Roy Young. Charles married Elizabeth "Bess" Nicholls in 1902 in Louisville. In 1920 and 1930, he worked as a Chief Clerk for the Tariff Bureau. Charles and Bess had one son, John "Jack" Nicholls Young. Charles was a clerk for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad at the time of his death in 1936. Jack worked for the Consolidated Biscuit Company, as a truck driver, and as a guilder in an antique shop. He was a corporal in the U. S. Army during WWII. John and Kate also had a daughter, Annie. Annie was a schoolteacher in Louisville from at least 1900 to 1920. By 1940, she was 82 years old and living with a niece in Long Beach, CA. In one of the photos, she is seen behind the Young house (either 1804 or 1140 Floyd St.) with her sister-in-law, Nancy Proctor Young. John and Kate's other son, James Lewis Young, (note: his name is spelled as both Louis and Lewis in records), was born in Taylorsville in 1860. He married Elizabeth Morgan Collier in Spencer County in 1891. James worked as a carpenter under his father in Taylorsville and then as a building contractor in Louisville. He and Elizabeth had 3 children, but only James Lewis Young, Jr., survived to adulthood. Their daughter Elizabeth Loraine Young died as an infant in 1900. James, or Lewis, Jr., worked as a clerk for the L&NRR until the family moved to Atlanta, where he worked as an assistant executive clerk. He was a sergeant for the US Army during WWI. John and Kate's son, Harvey Milton Young, was born in Taylorsville, but moved to Chicago sometime before 1900. He was married to Nancy Proctor Young. In Chicago, he worked as an undertaker, before moving to Dayton, Ohio. From 1910 on, he worked as a salesman of screens. They had a daughter, Katheryn. Katheryn was born in Chicago and lived in Ohio. She was a Stenographer for the screen company her father worked at. She also worked as a telephone operator. She married Ralph Payne Salisbury and together they had a son, Robert "Bobby" Milton Salisbury. Irving Tichenor was the son of Charles Tichenor and Kate Thixton. He was born in Nelson County where he worked as a farmer and later a physician. He was married to Mary "Mamie" K. Powers in Spencer County in 1902, and together they had four children.
