Description |
Carte-de-visite of James B. Clay (1817-1864), one of the sons of Politician Henry Clay of Kentucky. He was born in Washington D.C., but lived most of his life in Missouri and Lexington, Kentucky. He attended Transylvania University, became a lawyer, and worked for a few years under his father. James B. Clay served in Congress (1857-1859) and then supported the Confederacy during the Civil War after states seceded from the Union in 1861. He died in Montreal, Canada in 1864. |
