Lithographic print depicts the front facade of the Louisville Hotel, a four-storey Greek Revival structure designed by architect Hugh Roland (1795-1852) in 1831. The Hotel was said to be Roland's most important commission. Beneath the print, text reads: This Hotel is thoroughly repaired, newly furnished and now open for the reception of visitors under the supervision of Wm. [William] Bishop, late of New Orleans. July 1, 1844. The hotel was the first "modern" hotel in the state of Kentucky and was located on Louisville's Main Street. |
