According to the published book produced by Meyer's Pharmacy, 1945 Flood Pictures of the "Point" and the Surrounding Areas," "The Van Buren Baptist Church, started as a Mission of Broadway Baptist Church in 1901. Became an independent church, Sunday, March 19, 1922. Mr. Wm. [William] Stanley was superintendent for 27 years and after his death in March of 1943, Mr. Sam Duggins was elected and still serves as Sunday School superintendent. $178.78 was given to Missions on the first missionary day in March, 1922. The church has been flooded five times; once in 1907, twice in 1913, once in 1927, once in 1945."
