No. 37: Van Buren Baptist Church, River Road, on the "Point." Taken by E. C. M. According to the published book produced by Meyer's Pharmacy, 1945 Flood Pictures of the "Point" and the Surrounding Areas," "The Van Buren Baptist Church, started as a Mission of Broadway Baptist Church in 1901. Became an independent church, Sunday, March 19, 1922. Mr. Wm. [William] Stanley was superintendent for 27 years and after his death in March of 1943, Mr. Sam Duggins was elected and still serves as Sunday School superintendent. $178.78 was given to Missions on the first missionary day in March, 1922. The church has been flooded five times; once in 1907, twice in 1913, once in 1927, once in 1945."
