Margaret Lindsay Walter - Walter-Long Family Photograph Collection

Margaret Lindsay Walter (December 17, 1808-March 10, 1855). Married to Alpha Walter (October 10, 1796-July 25, 1846) on February 14, 1828 in Louisville, Kentucky. Alpha and Margaret Lindsay Walter had ten children, five died in infancy. Two sons and three daughters grew to adulthood including those depicted in this collection: Isabella Walter Norman (010PC26.3); Alpha Walter, Jr. (010PC26.2); Margaret Adelia Walter Long (014PC2.3) and her husband Isaac Newton Long (014PC2.1-.2).

Alpha Walter, Jr. (December 8, 1837-March 3, 1862). Alpha, Jr. was born near Charlestown, Clark County, Indiana to Alpha Walter and Margaret Lindsay. Alpha, Jr. married Elizabeth A. Walter and they had one child Alpha Walter, III. Alpha Walter III married Mattie Bailey on June 1, 1887 in Louisville, Kentucky. Alpha, Jr. was a member of Company I, 23rd Regiment., 2nd Volunteer Infantry, Colonel Sanderson commanding.

Isabella Walter Norman (August 3, 1832-November 1915). Isabella was born to Alpha Walter and Margaret Lindsay. Isabella married John B. Norman, lived in New Albany, Indiana, and had several children.

Isaac Newton Long (July 7,1836-March 23,1879). Written within front cover is white (silk?) lining with "Dec xx 1861 / Louisville / KY / xxxxxx / xxx / 130th / 1002". Isaac married Margaret Adelia Walter on November 19, 1863. Together Isaac and Margaret had one daughter who grew to maturity, and lived in Louisville, Kentucky, Isabella Long (October 6, 1866-February 9, 1891). Isabella went on to marry Edward Stockwell (1862-1898) and had one child Margaret Stockwell (SEE: 2010.11).

Together Isaac and Margaret had one daughter who grew to maturity, and lived in Louisville, Kentucky, Isabella Long (October 6, 1866-February 9, 1891). Isabella went on to marry Edward Stockwell (1862-1898) and had one child Margaret Stockwell (SEE: 2010.11).

Margaret "Maggie" Adelia Walter Long (May 3, 1840-January 17, 1923). Margaret was born near Charlestown, Clark County, Indiana to Alpha and Margaret Lindsay Walter. Margaret married Isaac Newton Long on November 19, 1863, and they had one child Isabella Long. Margaret died in 1923 at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her obituary reads, "Mrs. Long was an old resident of Louisville and a member of the Second Presbyterian Church."
